CUFFLEY OPERATIC SOCIETY has been performing Live Musical Theatre in Cuffley Hall for over 20 Years.
We have staged a wide variety of Musical shows, ranging from "Gilbert and Sullivan" and Operetta, through the American Broadway smash-hits such as "Guys and Dolls" and "Oklahoma", completing the spectrum with the almost Pantomime "Wizard of Oz" and the Rock Musical "Godspell".
We perform two staged productions every year, each over 4 or 5 nights and a matinee, in May and November, rehearsing principally on Thursday evenings, from 7.45pm to 10.00pm at local halls, including Northaw, St Andrews Undercroft and Goffs Oak Methodist Church.
Amateur Operatics is an exhilarating and extreamly satisfying hobby, where individuals have the opportunity to escape from normal life into the well known characters of the musical stage. It is also a deeply satisfying feeling to have been part of a successfully staged production, providing entertainment and enjoyment to a wide cross section of the local community.
We encourage the developement of singing, acting, dance and other drama skills - but the on-stage performers are only a part of a successful production. In fact, there are almost as many "behind the scenes" personnel, involved in scenery construction, stage management, lighting, sound, costumes, make-up etc. - not to mention the willing hands out front during show week, selling programmes serving drinks and coffees, or acting as ushers.
We also have an active Social section, organizing Quizzes, Bar-B-Ques and silmilar informal gatherings for our Memebes, Friends and their guests.
